Pip’s Tips · drinking

One bowl is not a water plan

Pip drinks wherever it suits her. That does not have to be where her human thinks it is logical.

Pip shares an opinionated cat tip

“Beside my food? No. Beside the plant, on the windowsill and from your glass? Interesting.” — Pip

Make drinking appealing

Cats differ in their preferences for materials, locations and running or still water. Give them choices.

  • Place several wide bowls in quiet locations, away from food and litter trays.
  • Try glass, ceramic or stainless steel and replace the water daily.
  • Wet food can increase total water intake.
  • Clean a water fountain thoroughly and regularly.

Drinking more is not a success story

A sudden clear increase in drinking or urination may indicate conditions including kidney disease, diabetes or hyperthyroidism. Have it investigated.
