When my 12-year-old fur-baby Kiku and I met Marieke, we were in a hopeless situation.

Kiku was vomiting multiple times a day, she was constantly nauseated and salivated heavily every few hours, she ate less and less and had lost weight without being able to gain it back. We had tried various medications and approaches that only seemed to improve her condition temporarily, and each time the relapse had been worse. I felt desperate and exhausted, scared and alone in a fight I could not win. I was convinced I was losing her.

Marieke has truly saved my Kiku and brought her quality of life back. Kiku has not vomited in over two months now, she has gained back her weight and then some, she is talkative and playful, she is running and hunting flies, chatting with magpies and basking in the afternoon sun. A few months ago I would not have dreamed of seeing her like this ever again, and I kept fearing another relapse. But Kiku is herself again. She is really, finally, doing well.

I am and will forever be grateful for Marieke’s insight and expertise, for the clear way in which she explained what was happening with Kiku, for her forward thinking and patience in finding the most favourable treatment option, and for her constant guidance and support. Last and by no means least, for her incredible gentleness and kindness, and for giving me the confidence that I had found the most reliable ally possible.

This kind of help is invaluable.

I visited Marieke with my cat Chester because of her expertise in feline medicine. Marieke is extremely knowledgeable and knows exactly how to carry out examinations in a cat-friendly way. She reassured both Chester and me, making the examinations and procedures a comfortable experience.

Communication is also excellent, and Marieke is genuinely committed to Chester’s wellbeing. She is a truly wonderful veterinarian whom I would certainly return to if necessary—although preferably not too often, of course!

My beloved Sheerani needed a bladder puncture. From the moment we arrived, I felt warmly welcomed. Dr Marieke took plenty of time to listen to my story and reassured me when it all became too much—I even cried from the tension and sadness.

What touched me especially was the loving way she treated Sheerani. She saw how frightened my cat was and did everything possible to put her at ease. After the procedure, she came to tell me personally how it had gone. She explained that Sheerani had been tense but had done very well. That gave me so much peace and relief.

I am enormously grateful for the compassion, warmth and care we received. A doctor with a big heart for animals and for their people. Thank you, dear Dr Marieke. ❤️

I feel honoured to have worked with Marieke for ten years. She is a fantastic veterinarian and colleague: ambitious, eager to learn and always willing to go the extra mile. Her thoughtful and meticulous way of working inspires complete confidence in colleagues and cat owners alike.

She also has an exceptional ability to put cats and their people at ease. She is a wonderful colleague and specialist—a true cat person through and through. Even my own highly anxious Tinto is completely comfortable with her, something very few people achieve. If you are looking for the best care for your cat, Marieke is the right person.

For some time, my primary-care veterinarian had begun to look worried whenever I arrived with my cats. Many of my questions remained unanswered while the problems kept accumulating. Some people are blessed with cats who never seem to have anything wrong; my dearest companions tend to collect health problems instead. When everything became too complex, Marieke was our guardian angel.

It is wonderful to see how Marieke works together with me as their carer, peeling away every problem layer by layer and gradually making the cats’ lives better. She is now used to my most unusual questions in the hope of finding even more quality of life. Fortunately, she knows an enormous amount and answers many questions immediately. If she does not know, she goes back to the literature and returns with a well-founded opinion and good advice.

Tanne and Phoenix are now 17, and their lives have improved considerably since we met Marieke despite all their health problems. Her endless patience when drawing blood from wriggly Flo*, or from Tanne when she can barely see a vein, seems almost magical to me. After working so closely together for so long, Marieke feels like a friend to us—not only to the sociable cats; she is endlessly gentle with the frightened ones too.

When Maxi was found to have a difficult-to-treat tumour in early 2025 and hard decisions had to be made, Marieke still supported us with advice and practical help during an extremely busy and stressful period for her. Fortunately, Maxi is still living his happy young life and she continues to share in the new things he learns. For involvement, knowledge and patience, Marieke is absolutely at the top for us. Without her, my cats would certainly have been less happy.

Our cat Sonata recently had to return to the vet for a check-up. Those visits are always stressful for her, but with veterinarian Marieke Knies she is in the very best hands.

We have known Marieke for several years, also through our other cat Sinister, who has sadly passed away. She helped and supported us wonderfully then. When we had to say goodbye to him, Marieke was visibly affected too—showing just how deeply she cares about her patients.

Marieke specialises in feline medicine and knows exactly how to make a veterinary visit as calm and stress-free as possible. She is incredibly kind and patient and does everything she can to help Sonata feel safe. Even when her blood pressure had to be measured, Marieke made it a calm and secure experience. And of course, there is always a treat waiting as a reward.

We are immensely grateful for the loving, expert care Sonata—and previously Sinister—received. It gives us great confidence to know that our animals are cared for with so much heart and dedication.
